What if the Exodus wasn’t just a historical event, but a divine pattern? What if the Lamb, the altar, and the call to come out weren’t just ancient shadows—but living realities fulfilled in Christ?
This week at The Gathering, Chris Berglund led us into a powerful meditation on the inward reign of Christ—an unveiling of the Gospel not as a system to adhere to, but as a Person who now lives within. His message peeled back the veil on religious striving and reminded us: the goal has always been union. The Gospel is not outside-in—it’s inside-out.
A Greater Exodus
Drawing from the original Exodus story, Chris reminded us that God’s rescue of Israel was not just about physical freedom—it was about spiritual identity. At Passover, God called for one lamb per household, one altar, one people. It was a radical act of belonging. But this act pointed beyond itself. Jesus, the Lamb of God, became the once-and-for-all sacrifice—not just to deliver us from Pharaoh, but from sin, shame, and the illusion of separation.
As Chris said, “God’s eternal plan was never about external systems or shadows, but about inhabiting a people—becoming our dwelling and our life.” In Jesus, the altar is no longer outside us. The temple has moved in.
From Many to One
Hebrews 12 and 13 emphasize that we are not merely part of a community—we are part of a Body. A single people, unified not by uniformity but by union with Christ. We are the firstborn people of God, bearing the name and nature of the Son.
In this body, our priesthood is not distant or institutional—it’s personal and participatory. We no longer gather to meet God in a building; we gather because we carry His presence. As Chris shared, the old has passed away—not just sin and death, but the system of separation. The veil is torn. The Spirit dwells within.
The Real Battle
So much of our spiritual weariness comes from chasing shadows—trying to “get” what we already “have.” We look for fire on altars God never asked us to build. We labor to earn what was given freely. But the real battle is this: to believe. To abide. To live from the indwelling life of Christ.
Chris challenged us to stop chasing manifestations of God “out there” and instead behold the One who reigns “in here.” To turn our attention inward—not as a psychological exercise, but as a response to the mystery of the Gospel: Christ in you, the hope of glory.
