A Devotional Reflection from The Gathering in Colorado Springs
By Leah Ramirez
At The Gathering here in Colorado Springs, we’re passionate about rediscovering the Gospel through the lens of union with Christ. That’s why teachings rooted in both Scripture and covenant are core to who we are.
When God gave Israel the Ten Commandments at Sinai, He wasn’t introducing Himself for the first time. He had already delivered them from Egypt. The Law wasn’t the beginning of relationship—it was a deepening of covenant. Not a prerequisite for salvation, but a reflection of the One who had already saved them.
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt…” (Exodus 20:2)
These commands weren’t arbitrary rules. They were wedding vows—a revelation of what it meant to be a people set apart for communion.
But now, in Jesus, we see the full substance of what the Law pointed toward.
He doesn’t abolish the commandments—He fulfills them (Matthew 5:17).
Not by tightening the external grip, but by transforming the heart through union.
Here’s how each commandment is fulfilled in Christ—and now in us, through Him:
• No other gods before Me – Jesus worshiped the Father alone, declaring, “You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.”
• No idols – Jesus revealed the unseen God, embodying the exact image and likeness of the Father—no idols needed.
• Do not take the Lord’s name in vain – Jesus bore the name of the Father perfectly, never misrepresenting Him.
• Remember the Sabbath – Jesus is our Sabbath rest. In Him, we cease striving and enter into union.
• Honor your father and mother – Jesus only said what He heard the Father saying, and only did what He saw the Father doing (John 5:19). He honored His heavenly Father perfectly.
• Do not murder – Jesus laid down His own life and forgave His killers.
• Do not commit adultery – Jesus is the faithful Bridegroom, fully devoted to His Bride.
• Do not steal – Jesus gave freely, never taking what wasn’t His.
• Do not bear false witness – Jesus is the Truth. Every word from His mouth aligned with heaven.
• Do not covet – Jesus lived in fullness and contentment, inviting us into that same sufficiency.
This isn’t about self-improvement. It’s about participation. The Spirit of Christ now lives in us—and His life fulfills the Law within us.
At The Gathering, our church in Colorado Springs, we’re seeing a renewed hunger to walk in this union. People are rediscovering the Gospel, reclaiming communion, and being rooted in the Word—not in obligation, but in transformation.
