Something shifted this week at The Gathering. From Wednesday night’s intimate time of beholding Christ to Sunday morning’s worship, there was a deep peace — like our hearts were breathing again.
Chris Berglund taught on the mystery and power of Sabbath rest — not as a ritual or day off, but as a lifestyle rooted in surrender. And the invitation is clear: to stop striving and let Christ live His life through us.
1. Rest Comes First
In Genesis, the first full day of humanity wasn’t labor — it was rest. Adam’s first breath began on the Sabbath.
“Rest is not a reward for the burnout. It’s a strategy to prevent it.”
We weren’t created to grind our way to God. We were created to live from union. At The Gathering, we’re learning that rest isn’t what happens when we’re finally done — it’s how we begin.
2. Rest Releases Fragrance
Scripture calls it the “odor of rest.” When Noah emerged from the ark and offered sacrifice, it says the aroma ascended — and God responded with mercy and blessing. That same language appears when Jesus is offered up, and again when we offer ourselves in surrender.
“We are the offering. Our surrendered lives rise like fragrance before God.”
3. Rest Is Not Passive — It’s Powerful
Sabbath rest isn’t spiritual laziness. It’s a bold act of faith. It’s saying: “I can’t do this in my own effort. I’m yielding my life to Christ within.” That posture releases heaven.
“We’re not a striving church. We’re a surrendering church.”
In this kind of rest, the powers of darkness lose access. Rest becomes our warfare. Rest becomes our covering.
