Looking for a church in Colorado Springs where cultivating an inner life is more than a concept—it’s a way of being? At The Gathering, we’re learning to become a resting place for Christ. This past Sunday, Susan Berglund shared a powerful word on union, prayer, and being formed into the kind of people God can dwell with.

👉 Cultivating an Inner Life – Susan Berglund | The Gathering
John 1:38
“The two disciples… said to him, ‘Rabbi, where are you staying?’ He said to them, ‘Come and see.’”
From the beginning, the invitation has been relational. Jesus doesn’t point to a temple—He invites us into His life. Susan reminded us that we’re not just called to believe in Christ, but to become His resting place.
Psalm 132:5
“I will not rest until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
She challenged us to consider what kind of atmosphere attracts the presence of God. Are we creating a place where He feels at home? Where there’s no comparison, no jealousy, no pretense—only love?
Galatians 4:19
“I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you.”
This was a central theme of Susan’s message: our greatest calling is not doing, but becoming. Before ministry, before mandates, before mission—there’s formation.
Reflection question:
🟡 Am I more focused on doing something for God or becoming someone who reflects Him?
Romans 8:29 reminds us that we are “predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son.” This is the eternal purpose: that Christ would be planted, formed, and made manifest through us.
John 7:37–38
“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink… out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
Susan described our lives as incarnate thirst. God created us with longings that can only be satisfied in Him. And yet, many settle for counterfeit affections—religious performance, comfort, the American Dream.
“It’s like having a billion dollars in the bank and collecting pennies to buy bananas.”
Only union satisfies.
Reflection question:
🟡 Where am I drinking from broken cisterns instead of drawing from the well within?
Ephesians 3:17
“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love…”
Susan challenged us to build an atmosphere of compatibility with God’s nature. That means radical love, humility, and honor. It means letting go of gossip, jealousy, and comparison to make room for the fragrance of Christ.
Like Mary of Bethany, we want to pour out what’s costly. We want to move His heart. We want to be the kind of people He says of, “I want to be there.”
Reflection question:
🟡 What kind of fragrance is my life releasing into the room? Is it drawing God near—or pushing Him out?
Susan closed by painting a vision of what’s possible when we truly learn to dwell in God’s presence:
“We’re seated with Him in heavenly places—but our feet are still on the ground. The more we live from the spirit, the thinner the space gets.”
This is the Bride making herself ready. This is communion. This is the Church Jesus is returning for.
At The Gathering, we are building a family centered on prayer, worship, and union with Christ. We’re not trying to perform—we’re learning to be at home with Him and one another.
