At The Gathering, we’re still at the beginning of our journey—and honestly, that feels sacred. There’s something holy about starting fresh, especially when the invitation is to go deeper than we’ve ever gone before.
Last Sunday, I shared a message that’s been working its way through me for weeks. We’re walking through our Statement of Beliefs together, and this week we leaned into the mystery and miracle of the Incarnation—God becoming flesh in Jesus Christ.
It’s more than theology. It’s everything.
Jesus didn’t just appear like a man. He became one. He entered our dust, our limitations, our vulnerability—not to save us from afar, but to join us in it. He didn’t come to shout instructions from the heavens. He came near. He took on our form, lived our humanity, died our death, and now shares His life with us.
And here’s the part that gets me: He did all of this to bring us into union with God.
I’ve been revisiting the writings of early church fathers lately—especially the work of Athanasius, a 4th-century bishop who stood up in a time of confusion and compromise. He fought for the truth that Jesus is both fully God and fully man. And he paid for that conviction with exile—five times. But he wouldn’t back down. Why? Because if Jesus isn’t fully God, He can’t save us. And if He isn’t fully man, He can’t bring us in.
That conviction is burning in me again.
Athanasius said, “He became what we are, that we might become what He is.” And that, to me, is the Gospel. Not just that we’re saved from something, but that we’re brought into Someone. Into the life of God.
At The Gathering, we want to be the kind of community where that’s more than a statement of belief. We want to live it. To walk it out. To look for Christ not only in worship, but in our weakness. Not just in the Word, but in one another.
What if your body—yes, your tired, aging, aching, beautiful body—is the very temple where glory chooses to dwell?
What if Christ is closer than we’ve dared to believe?
And what if this journey of faith is not about escape, but about transformation?
These are the things we’re pondering together. We’re not rushing. We’re not performing. We’re gathering around the mystery of Christ in us—the hope of glory.
If you’re in Colorado Springs and looking for a place to belong, to ask real questions, to find real family, you’re invited. We’re meeting every Sunday at 10 AM, and this is just the beginning.
